Sustainability with Türchen: The Resource-Saving Digital Advent Calendar

Advent calendars are one of the most beautiful traditions in the run-up to Christmas – they increase the anticipation and provide little surprises every day. But with classic paper and plastic calendars, there is often only one thing left after the Advent season: garbage.

With Türchen, we are focusing on a digital solution that combines joy and sustainability. And not just because we avoid physical materials.

Digital products also require resources – particularly due to the energy consumption involved in server operations and data processing. We understand that true sustainability means more than just avoiding paper and plastic. That’s why we implement targeted measures to minimize Türchen’s environmental impact.

Steps We Take Toward a Sustainable Digital Advent Calendar

1. Green electricity for our servers

Our servers are powered exclusively by green electricity. This ensures that Türchen is emission-free and does not contribute to fossil energy sources.

2. Data economy: less is more

Processing data requires energy. That's why we minimize the amount of data processed by Türchen wherever possible. This not only saves energy, but also protects sensitive information.

This is how we implement data minimization in practice:

  • Optimized image use: Images in Türchen calendars are compressed using the WebP format so that they load quickly while using as little energy as possible.

  • Automatic data deletion: To avoid data clutter, calendars are completely deleted from our servers. Without archiving, this happens after 6 months; with archiving, after 2 years. More information about calendar archiving at Türchen.

  • Collect only necessary data: We only collect the data that is really needed – transparently and minimally.

3. Regular optimization: Sustainability is a process

Sustainability does not end with a one-time concept. We are continuously working to make Türchen even more resource-efficient. This includes regularly cleaning up data and optimizing our processes to further reduce energy consumption.

Why Data Efficiency Matters

Efficient data handling has many advantages – for the environment and for users:

  • Lower energy consumption: Small data volumes require less storage space and computing power.
  • Cost savings: Less data means lower infrastructure and maintenance costs.
  • Enhanced data protection: The less data that is stored, the lower the risk of data breaches.

Türchen: Joy Meets Eco-Friendly Innovation

With Türchen, we show that digital advent calendars can do more: they increase the anticipation of Christmas, are flexible and customizable – and at the same time save resources. By combining green electricity, data economy and an efficient design, we make the advent season a little more sustainable.
